If you have an athlete playing travel baseball you’ve probably stumbled upon your least favorite dilemma and chore to date as a parent and adult: cleaning stains out of baseball pants.
It never fails. Your child will slide pants first into mud, clay, dirt, turf.. not to mention all the concession-stand snacks that will mysteriously drip and spill on their laps.
Yet.. the coaches are always requesting (dare I say.. demanding) that your player show up each day in the sparkliest of white pants.
Impossible. Or.. at least it has always felt that way.
BUT. I have found a tried and true method to cleaning baseball pants THAT ACTUALLY works and ACTUALLY makes your player’s dirtiest pants white again.
The best part is the products are not expensive.. they’re cleaner and better for you (think.. non-toxic), and you can get a pair of pants clean in about 30 minutes + however long of a setting you choose on your washing machine.

As you can see above.. these baseball pants have been through it. They were completely black on the front side with dirt and only the good Lord knows what else. And the back.. well it looked like my son sat in two strips of tar. I have no idea what else it could be. The thought of how I could get baseball pants like these white again used to give me anxiety.
We’ve tried everything in the past. Bleach, Oxyclean, Fels-Naptha.. nothing really ever works. Sure, they make take the first layer or two off.. but nothing ever really cuts through the grease and makes the pants look truly clean.
Until.. now.
Here’s what I used to get his pants sparkling white again:
And here’s what I did:
- Applied Pre-Spot gel to stained areas and rubbed in.
- With cool water, scrubbed stained areas with Gold Bar.
- Dissolved two Mela Brite pods in a sink of cold water, along with 1 pump of Mela Power.
- While those were dissolving, I sprayed the stained areas with Pre-Spot spray.
- Let pants soak in water for about 10 minutes.
- Took them out and applied Pre-Spot gel one more time, and scrubbed areas well.
- Let pants soak in water for another 10 minutes.
- Threw pants in my washer with 1 more Mela Brite pod and 1 pump of Mela Power on a regular cycle.
- Took them out, and voila.
All of these products are through Amazon (I’ve provided links above to make it easy).. and let me just say.. I’ll be a customer for life. Or.. at least as long as I have kiddos in sports.
